September / Labor Day Activity / Enrichment / Cross Curricular
Teach students the reason Labor Day is a national holiday. Use this activity to conduct a classroom simulation of an assembly line. Students work on a line completing a color graphic under strict parameters to mimic the tough working conditions of the Industrial Revolution. You get 2 pages with:
- Background information about the history of Labor Day
- A description of the materials, procedure, and parameters that student "workers" must follow
- 10 higher-order thinking questions for discussion/response that require students to analyze the simulation and how it relates to assembly line work, manufacturing, and employee concerns
10 pages with possible black and white graphics that can be used for assembly line simulation
No Answer Key is provided with the activity since questions are open-ended.
